about
Lucy Nemeth is a violinist whose performances combine vibrant expression, compelling storytelling, and a passion for connecting with listeners. She strives to share music that resonates deeply with audiences and seeks meaningful ways to bring music into everyday spaces, performing in schools, cafes, correctional facilities, and museums across the United States and Canada.

Lucy is a founding member of the Lyra Quartet, praised for their “impeccable phrasing” and “rigorous and profoundly human” interpretations (Pan M 360). The quartet was awarded the Emerging Artist Fellowship at the Garth Newel Music Center and a full scholarship to the Tuckamore Music Festival. Finalists in the 2024 McGill Chamber Competition, Lyra gave a recital at the Canadian Architecture Centre, performed in the Schulich in the Neighborhood community concert series, and organized a pop-up concert at Café Aux Angles Ronds.

Passionate about new music, Lucy has recently premiered works by Fiona Marchetto, Cece Olszewski, and Sarah Barone, and has served as concertmaster in McGill and Northwestern’s Contemporary Music Ensembles. Lucy enjoys exploring cross-genre collaborations and frequently performs with jazz musicians and records for pop albums and film scores.

An avid chamber musician, Lucy has appeared at the Credo Oberlin String Quartet Institute, Valley of the Moon Emerging Artists Program, Festival del Lago, ENCORE, Bowdoin, and Mendocino music festivals. She is also a regular performer with Soaring Arts Music Collective, a Denver-based 501(c)(3) that presents interdisciplinary performances and educational workshops. Highlights from their 2025 season include The Wanderer’s Tale, a choose-your-own-adventure concert for string quartet and narrator where audience choice shapes the music and the story.

As a teacher, she has led youth orchestra sectionals, coached string quartets, and taught private lessons through Oakland Unified School District’s Summer Music Camp, the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra’s Summer Camp, and programs in the Piedmont Unified School District.

Lucy holds a B.Mus. from McGill University and is currently pursuing her Master’s at Northwestern University with Jinjoo Cho with the support of the Eckstein Music Scholarship. She performs on a 2017 violin made by Anthony Lane in Petaluma, California.
